Top seeds Southeastern, Cody to make their "Big D" debuts today at 4 p.m.

Regular-season leaders Southeastern High and Cody High earned a bye in the first round but will headline the field today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. when the Detroit Public School League’s “Big D” boys basketball tournament resumes at eight sites.
Southeastern, 10-0 in league play, hosts Osborn, Crockett hosts Central (at Heilmann), King hosts Denby and Douglass hosts Pershing in the East Division, while league unbeaten Cody (10-0) hosts CMA, Mumford hosts Renaissance, Cass Tech hosts Northwestern and Ford hosts Southwestern in the West Division.
The winners advance to the quarterfinals Friday at 4 and 5:30 p.m. East quarterfinal games will be played at Osborn High and the West quarterfinals are at Renaissance High. Cass Tech High is site of the boys’ semifinals, Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. , and also will host the boys’ 5 p.m. consolation game and 7:30 p.m. championship game Friday, Feb. 18.
Unbeaten Pershing High’s Doughgirls are shaping up as the class of the field in the “Big D” girls’ tournament, which picks up Wednesday with the East quarterfinals at Osborn High School and the West quarterfinals at Central High. In the East, King collides with Southeastern at 4 p.m. followed by Pershing against Central at 5:30 p.m. In the West, Mumford meets Cass Tech at 4 p.m. and Cody takes on Renaissance at 5:30 p.m.
Osborn High will host the girls’ semifinals Monday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The girls’ tournament culminates with the 5 p.m. consolation game and 7:30 p.m. championship game Thursday, Feb. 17 at Renaissance High.
