PSL’s ‘Big D’ boys’ basketball tourney starts Friday at 4 p.m.; girls’ second-round games set for Saturday at 11 a.m.

Due to the inclement weather, second-round games of the “Big D” Detroit Public School League girls’ basketball tournament have been rescheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m., while the boys’ tournament gets underway as scheduled Friday at 4 p.m. with six first-round games.
Girls’ second-round games include: Crockett at King, Osborn at Southeastern, Denby at Central, and DIA at Pershing in the East Division; and Northwestern at Mumford, Ford at Cass Tech, CMA at Cody, and Western at Renaissance in the West Division.
The winners advance into the Great 8 on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with West quarterfinal games at Central High School and East quarterfinal games at Osborn High School.
Osborn High will also host the girls’ Final Four Monday, Feb. 14, with semifinal games at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The girls’ tournament culminates Thursday, Feb. 17 with the 7:30 p.m. championship game and 5 p.m. consolation game at Renaissance High School.
Friday’s first-round games in the Big D boys’ tourney include: Davis at Denby, Central at Finney, and Kettering at Osborn in the East; and Western at Southwestern, Westside at Northwestern, and City at CMA in the West. The top five seeds in each division – Southeastern, Douglass, King, Crockett and Pershing in the East, and Cody, Mumford, Ford, Cass Tech and Renaissance in the West — get a bye into the second round, set for Tuesday, Feb. 8. The boys’ tourney concludes Feb. 18 at Cass Tech High School with the 7:30 p.m. championship game after the 5 p.m. consolation game.
