"Big D" PSL girls’ basketball tournament resumes Wednesday with eight games

The “Big D” Detroit Public School League basketball championship tournament officially shifted into gear for the girls Thursday as four teams advanced into the second round.
In the East Division, DIA defeated Davis 43-14, while in the West Division, Ford ousted Westside 60-39, CMA bumped Southwestern 52-20 and Western beat City 50-27.
The league’s first-ever, all-inclusive one-game elimination tournament resumes with second-round games Wednesday at 4 p.m. In the East, Crockett is at King, Osborn visits Southeastern, Denby is at Central and DIA visits Pershing. In the West, Northwestern visits Mumford, Ford visits Cass, CMA is at Cody, and Western is at Renaissance.
Second-round winners advance into the Great 8 on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with West quarterfinal games at Central High School and East quarterfinal games at Osborn High School.
Osborn High will also host the girls’ Final Four Monday, Feb. 14, with semifinal games at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The girls’ tournament culminates Thursday, Feb. 17 with the 7:30 p.m. championship game and 5 p.m. consolation game at Renaissance High School.
The “Big D” boys’ tournament starts with first-round games Friday, Feb. 4, and concludes Feb. 18 at Cass Tech High School with the 7:30 p.m. championship game following the 5 p.m. consolation game.
JV championships: The PSL’s junior varsity basketball semifinals will be Saturday at 11 and 1 p.m. In the girls’ semis at Osborn High School, it’s Southeastern vs. King in the first game followed by Cass vs. Renaissance. In the boys’ semis at Kettering High School, Denby plays King followed by Cass vs. Renaissance. The girls’ JV championship game is Monday at 4 p.m. and the boys’ JV championship game is at 5:30 p.m., both at Denby High School.
