DPS schools hold workshops to prepare students for Michigan Merit Exam

Detroit Public Schools high schools continue to hold workshops this week and on weekends to prepare students for the Michigan Merit Exam and ACT. Southeastern High School, Central Collegiate Academy, Communication Media Arts, Mumford and others have designed special programs such as the “Michigan Merit Examination/ACT Test Preparation Institute” to ready students and teach test-taking strategies.

Communication and Media Arts High School hosted its first annual 11th grade parent workshop Monday, focused on standardized testing and the college selection process. It was the first of a two-part series. The second will occur in the spring. The school today is holding test preparation workshops for students.

Throughout the week, all juniors at Central Collegiate Academy are participating in the ACT/MME kickoff week. Students are partaking in interactive workshops, which will focus on test-taking strategies writing skills and more.

Southeastern High School, which has the motto “MME – Making a Mark toward Excellence!” has launched five Saturday sessions for a new MME/ACT Preparatory Institute. The first session was held Dec. 11. A parent and student orientation was held Dec. 4. Upcoming sessions are Saturday, Jan. 22, Feb. 5 and Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon.
