The Detroit Public School League will heat up the high school basketball season with its second annual Holiday Hoops Classic on Monday and Tuesday, December 27-28 at Cass Technical High.
A talented field of 14 boys’ teams and 10 girls’ teams will wage battle in 12 games, six each day. Tickets are $10 per day and can be purchased at the door or in advance from any of the participating schools.
The girls’ competition is headed by three PSL teams – Renaissance, King and Pershing – all ranked among the state’s top 10. Central, Northwestern and Southeastern are three other PSL teams in the girls’ field, which also includes teams from Inkster, Southfield Lathrup, Grosse Pointe South and Chicago Whitney Young Magnet.
On the boys’ side, Central, CMA, Denby, Finney, Ford, Mumford, Northwestern, Osborn and Southwestern comprise the PSL’s nine teams in the competition, while five other teams from outside the league include Toledo Scott, Riverview, Grosse Pointe North, Community and Chandler Park Academy.
Games Monday, Dec. 27: 10 a.m. – Central vs. Northwestern girls; 12 p.m. – CMA vs. Finney boys; 2 p.m. – Central vs. Northwestern boys; 4 p.m. – Renaissance vs. Inkster girls; 6 p.m. – Pershing vs. Southfield Lathrup girls; 8 p.m. – Grosse Pointe North vs. Denby boys.
Games Tuesday, Dec. 28: 10 a.m. – Southwestern vs. Community boys; 12 p.m. — Grosse Pointe South vs. Southeastern girls; 2 p.m. – Osborn vs. Chandler Park Academy boys; 4 p.m. — King vs. Chicago Whitney Young girls; 6 p.m. — Ford vs. Riverview boys; 8 p.m. – Mumford vs. Toledo Scott boys.
