DPS opens new Parent Resource Center in Southwest Detroit

Parents can attend workshops for chance to win shopping spree

Detroit Public Schools on Wednesday opened its eighth Parent Resource Center, located at Phoenix Academy – 7735 Lane Street. The center offers training and workshops daily for parents. Parents can attend workshops at any of the eight DPS resource centers now through Dec. 15 and be entered to win a $150 shopping spree. The more workshops parents attend, the more chances they have to win.

“I am very excited to be able to open our doors to the parents throughout the Detroit Public School community and to share our facilities as well as our resources to better the academic and social well being of our larger “family.” Thank you to the all that made this possible,” said Norma Hernandez, Principal, Phoenix Multi-Cultural Academy.

Upcoming workshops:

  • December 6th – 10th: Stress Management
OMG! What’s next? Enough! This workshop will explore balancing home, work, children and money.
  • December 13th – 17th: Building Relationship
Quality vs. Quantity (How to get the most out of homework and holiday breaks, including take-home activity kits for children.)

(Parents should call individual Parent Resource Centers to find out specific times.)
