Fans of the Detroit Public School League will have a rooting interest this weekend when the league’s four remaining teams in the MHSAA state football playoffs advance into district play.
On tap Friday: King (7-3) hosts Grosse Pointe South (6-4) in a Division 2 game at 6 p.m., and Crockett (9-1) hosts unbeaten Detroit Country Day (9-0) in a Division 4 game at Osborn High School at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Central (8-2) hosts Dearborn Divine Child (8-2) in a Division 4 game at 1 p.m., and unbeaten Cass Tech (10-0) hosts Dearborn Fordson (8-2) in a Division 1 game at 3 p.m.
In last weekend’s pre-district action, Cass shut out Southeastern 35-0, King walloped East Detroit 45-20, Central got past Melvindale 35-33, and Crockett beat Detroit Old Redford 21-6.
Southeastern was among four PSL teams that bowed out. Southwestern lost 21-8 to Warren Fitzgerald, Mumford lost 42-6 to Detroit Catholic Central and Cody lost 17-15 to Grosse Pointe South.
