Unbeaten Cass Tech leads eight PSL teams into MHSAA state football playoffs

The Detroit Public School League, headed by Cass Tech and its perfect 9-0 record, will be represented by eight teams in the Michigan High School Athletic Association football playoffs that begin this weekend.
The state playoffs are contested within eight 32-team championship divisions based on school enrollment-size. The PSL will have three teams competing in Division I, two in Division II, one in Division III and two in Division IV.
Cass, which defeated previously unbeaten Crockett 41-7 Saturday to capture the PSL “A” title, will host league rival Southeastern (5-3) at 5 p.m Friday in a Division I game. In another Divison I game, Mumford (5-4) visits Novi Catholic Central (7-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
In Division II, King (6-3) hosts Eastpointe (5-4) Friday at 6 p.m., and Cody (6-3) hosts Grosse Pointe South (5-4) Friday at 6 p.m. at Renaissance High School.
In Division III, Southwestern (6-3) visits Warren Fitzgerald (6-3) Friday at 7 p.m.
Central (7-2), which shut out Pershing 48-0 for the PSL “B” championship, hosts Melvindale (5-4) Friday at 6 p.m. in Division IV; and in another Division IV matchup, Crockett (8-1) hosts Detroit Old Redford (6-3) Friday at 6 p.m. at Osborn High School.
