Training and elections of the Delegates for District Wide Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) to be held Saturday

As part of Detroit Public Schools’ Parent and Community Engagement 2.0 initiative, the Office of Parent and Community Engagement will hold training and elections of the Delegates for the Detroit Parent Advisory Council (D-PAC) Saturday.

What: The Office of Parent and Community Engagement will hold training and elections of the Delegates for the Detroit Parent Advisory Council (D-PAC). Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. Activities for children will be offered.
Where: Frederick Douglass Academy, 2001 W. Warren, Detroit, MI 48202
When: Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. All Parents of students currently enrolled in Detroit Public Schools (DPS) are encouraged to attend and participate.

The district recognizes, supports and follows the Federal and State Regulations of the Title 1 NCLB Act of 2001.

The district adopted the concept of Parent Involvement as defined by the NCLB (PL107-110) “the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities.” and NCLB Section 1118(e)(12):

(e) BUILDING CAPACITY FOR INVOLVEMENT- To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, each school and local educational agency assisted under this part –
(12) may establish a district-wide parent advisory council to provide advice on all matters related to parental involvement in programs supported under this section.
