Haitian pastor visited DPS’ Beard Early Childhood Center to thank students and staff for raising money after earthquake

Pastor Benite Juene from Vignier, Haiti, northwest of Port-au-Prince, visited Beard Early Childhood Center, 840 Waterman, Detroit, on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. to thank students, parents, staff, and the administration for raising money to help rebuild his school compound that was destroyed by the January 2010 Haiti earthquake.

“When I heard how the children were so generous in bringing coins to help me and my village rebuild our school, I knew the next time I was in Detroit I would visit the school to say thank you,” Benite said in a release.

The students and staff raised $500 through an initiative called “Change for Change,” said Principal Sabrina D. Evans.
