As part of a ramped-up strategy to retain students and ensure regular and immediate communications with parents and guardians about district and school news, school closing information, emergencies and more, Detroit Public Schools has launched an aggressive campaign to gather up-to-date phone numbers, emails and addresses.
The incentive to fill out the contact information is $25,000 in Target gift cards. Parents and guardians have an opportunity to win the Target gift cards for submitting completed contact information. The top prize is $1,000, while the runner-up prize is $500. Smaller gift cards are available, including four $250 cards; 10 $100 cards; 20 $50 cards and 750 $25 cards.
Teachers who submit contact information for their classes also have a chance to win. The top prize for teachers is $500. Smaller gift cards also are available.
The effort to gather pertinent contact information is part of the district’s award-winning “I’m In” enrollment campaign and builds upon the success of last year’s effort, which included the distribution of thousands of paper door hangers for parents, a parade, the “Great Things are Happening” song, bus wraps, and the hallmark blue door image that encouraged Detroiters to proclaim their support for Detroit Public Schools by declaring “I’m In.”
On Friday, June 11, elementary schools will receive 64,000 door hangers, which tout the “Great Things Happening” in Detroit Public Schools under the new academic plan but also incorporate a tear card for parents to fill out their contact information. The contact card portion of the cards should be returned to their child’s school.
The multi-pronged approach to gather contact information will also include an online survey, to be unveiled next week, and a scantron card that will be distributed to both elementary and high schools next week. The deadline to fill in contact information is the last day of school – June 17.
