Detroit Public Schools will hold a second series of informational meetings for the community on the five-year Academic Plan for the district.

The new Detroit Public Schools Academic Plan significantly raises the bar for academic rigor at all levels and lays out a road map for change that will provide the children of Detroit with the education they need to compete in the global economy of the 21st century.

Members of the team of DPS leaders who designed the plan will be on hand to help parents and guardians understand the new programs that will be available and how they will impact their children’s education. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The meetings are scheduled for:

5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday April 12 in Studio A at Detroit School of Arts, 123 Selden

6-7 p.m. Wednesday April 14, before the Facilities Town Hall Meeting at Western International High School, 1500 Scotten St.

6-7 p.m. Thursday April 15 before the Facilities Town Hall Meeting at Osborn High School, 11600 E. Seven Mile Road

The rigorous curriculum in the plan includes, among other things:

– Access to Advanced Placement classes at every high school

– Expanding the number of students who have dual enrollment in college through partnerships with colleges and universities

– Expanding the time for reading and mathematics in pre-kindergarten to grade 8 to 120 minutes
