Detroit Public Schools’ Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb will hold a series of Town Hall meetings to solicit parent and community feedback on the district’s Master Facilities Plan beginning March 29.
Detroit Public Schools will be transformed over the next five years from a district with many under-capacity schools in aging buildings to one in which about 75 percent of all students will attend new or recently renovated schools, under a new Facilities Master Plan released recently.
Bobb said the Master Plan creates a leaner, smarter DPS by taking into account citywide demographic trends, school performance, condition of school buildings, operating costs, the new Academic Plan, community partnerships and other factors. He expects to make a final decision in April.
School presentations and individual comments will only be allowed for the schools listed for the specific Town Hall meeting. The meetings will only address schools slated to close in June 2010. Each school will be given 15 minutes and must present in the order listed. The individual school presentation starting times are approximate and may be subject to change. The schedule is as follows:
