Female students at Detroit Public Schools’ Finney High School will be offered a free self-defense course over the next month in partnership with the school, the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion and instructors from Alkebu-lan Village.
The training is being offered after concerns have been raised about safe routes to schools and neighborhood safety. A number of efforts are ongoing on behalf of the city and school system to ensure safer travel to and from school.
On Friday, students will see a demonstration from self-defense instructors, have a Q&A session and learn self-defense tips. Students will have an opportunity over the next month to be trained in self defense techniques.
When: Friday, Nov. 13 at 8:30- 9:30 a.m. (and Mondays at the same time from Nov. 16 to Dec. 14.)
Where: Finney High School, 4180 Marlborough Street.
