Detroit International Academy for Young Women, the first, all-girls public high school in the state of Michigan, is taking a grand stand for a great cause, “A Hat Strut for Breast Cancer Awareness.”
On October 7, from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., the school intends not only to make breast cancer awareness an educational forum for students, but also to put on display the urgency in making the community aware of the need for early detection, self-examination and annual mammograms.
The school has asked many local celebrities to take part and to strut a hat for breast cancer awareness. The Detroit Chapter of The Links, Inc. is co-sponsoring the event, along with the Senior Class. The entire school is participating in this event by obtaining pledges, making personal donations and taking part in a public strut around the perimeter of the school building around 10:30 a.m.
The proceeds for this event will go to the Karmanos Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Media are invited.
