Detroit Public Schools students, who responded to an “open” casting call, will perform for the first time ever in a choreographed “freeze” performance around 172 blue doors at Hart Plaza on Aug. 24 at noon, when the DPS blue doors debut.
The 172 standard-size blue doors not only will create a striking visual exhibit visible from Jefferson and Woodward Avenue, but will also encourage the public to interact with the 6-foot-8 by 3-foot blue doors by opening and closing, entering and exiting. The blue doors will remain at Hart Plaza Aug. 24-27.
— A specially selected group of talented DPS singers will sing the “Great Things are Happening ” jingle LIVE as a part of the “freeze” performance.
— The song is led by Jessica A. Clements, a graduate of Detroit School of the Arts and 2005 SOULSTAR completion winner. Clements is a music major at Wayne State University with a 4.0 grade point average. Clements is accompanied by seven DPS background singers.
— DPS alumnus Brian Alexander, a local producer and performer, created the jingle along with DPS students in response to the need they saw to communicate to the public that DPS had great schools with great opportunities. Brian is the owner of Windmill Entertainment Group.
