Detroit, MI — On Thursday evening, May 28th , at 6:30 p.m. on the dot, the house lights will dim, the crowd will grow quiet and after a few words of welcome from the Master of Ceremonies, the magic will begin. The site will be the historic Fox Theatre. The event will be the 39th Annual Evening of Fine Arts (EFA). It is a production that many feel the Detroit Public Schools simply shouldn’t be able to stage. But DPS students have proved the doubters wrong and presented the EFA with ever increasing success, support and praise from the public each successive year.

Over 500 DPS students of the Arts have sacrificed fun times, practiced extra hours, and have done what was necessary to prepare themselves for this very special time. They were selected as the best representatives of the Arts programs in the District by a rigorous audition process.

Upon entering the Fox, guests in the lobby will have the opportunity to view over 40 works of art created by visual arts students in a variety of media. The on-stage aspect of the evening can be counted on to present the very finest young performers in the District. Over 20 different acts will grace the stage, entertaining the audience with pieces that cover the full range of artistic expression from instrumental musical compositions, to vocal pieces, to dance and a touch of the contemporary.

As it is every year, the show is the cake. The Finale is the icing. This year the Finale theme is ‘The Color Purple.’ It will be an evening to remember for both the performers and those attending.

The EFA tickets are free, but you must have one to attend. To get a ticket, call 313-873-7965. Come out and support the learning that takes place in The Detroit Public Schools, and just enjoy an evening of great entertainment, from the Arts.

‘Evening of Fine Arts’ is produced by the DPS Office of Fine Arts Education.
