DPS STUDENTS STOLE THE SHOW AT
THE MSBOA AND MSVMA MUSIC FESTIVALS
Detroit, MI — The Detroit Public Schools sent the very best performers it has to
offer to the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and the Michigan
School Vocal Music Association, District XV Festivals.
The MSBOA Festival was held at Renaissance High School on March 13 and 14th.
There were 23 bands and orchestras from Metro Detroit public and private, middle and
high schools in performance. The District was represented by nearly 800 students in 7
high school and 5 middle school orchestras. Of those, Spain and Bates Academy middle
schools, and DSA, Renaissance, Cass Technical, Mumford, and King high schools
received the First Division rating needed to assure them a place at the State MSBOA
festivals later in the spring.
The MSVMA Festival took place at Marygrove College on March 13 where about 600
DPS students in18 middle and high school vocal ensembles were the only performers.
Of those schools, DSA, Cass Technical and Renaissance received Superior Ratings
which assure them a place at the MSVMA State Festivals in April.
The students were judged by college, university and high school music educators who
have proven to be qualified to select the best performances at these competitions.
