Detroit, MI – Detroit Public Schools Emergency Financial Manager Robert C. Bobb today ordered the placing on administrative leave a payroll supervisor, effective immediately, based on allegations that payroll records which he had access to were inappropriately altered.
The program supervisor, who has held the responsibility of running the Detroit Public Schools payroll for a period of six years, is alleged to have altered his own payroll records in the process of processing the district’s February 26th payroll, reducing the number of vacation days to be deducted during that time. A district employee initially noted an inconsistency in records and reported it to administrators.
The employee has been placed on administrative leave, effective immediately, without pay, pending a hearing before the DPS Division of Human Resources.
Bobb stated that the Payroll office is one of several divisions that will be the subject of a forensic audit within the next several weeks. In addition, he praised the actions of those who helped to bring the actions to light.
