The Detroit Board of Education today was notified through a letter from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Michael Flanagan regarding his declaration that Detroit Public Schools is in a Financial Emergency.

Detroit Public Schools General Superintendent Connie K. Calloway, Ph.D. said, “We will discuss this matter with the Detroit Board of Education and determine the appropriate next steps.”

Board of Education President Carla D. Scott, M.D. stated that the concerns raised by Supt. Flanagan will be fully investigated to determine the best course of action. “There was no intent to not meet the requirements of the Consent Agreement between the Detroit Public School District and the State Financial Management Review Team,” President Scott said.
