If you are the parent or guardian of child who will be four years old by December 1st, you still have time to register your young one in an aggressive but nurturing, all-day Pre-Kindergarten program. To register, you will need your child’s birth certificate and a copy of his/her immunization record.

The Pre-Kindergarten program is held 4 days each week and is only open to families that meet the Head Start and/or Great Start Readiness eligibility requirements.

Students in the program are well on their way to a good life. Two major long-term studies (High Scope/Perry Preschool, Chicago Parent-Child Centers) declare it. They have shown that children who are in a rigorous and effective Pre-K program truly benefit because they are.

-more likely to graduate from high school
-more likely to be employed
-more likely to earn a higher income
-.and more likely to lead a healthy life

In the DPS all-day Pre-K classes the curriculum is structured to keep the young child engaged in learning with a rigorous yet developmentally appropriate curriculum that includes mathematics; science; language and literacy development; art; and social studies. All of the teachers and instructional staff are certified and highly qualified which is mandated by federal law. When the students complete the DPS Pre-K program and begin kindergarten, they are prepared for that next step in learning and are ready to embrace education as a life-long adventure.

There are 190 Pre-Kindergarten sites conveniently located around the City, inside Detroit Public schools. Many have room for more children. To find a DPS Pre-Kindergarten program near you, please call the DPS Office of Primary Education on 313-866-0533 or 313 – 873-8552. Your child deserves every chance for a great education.
