DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY AGENCIES PRESENT "I HAVE A DREAM" SPEECH

On Thursday August 28th, Detroit Public Schools will join Alkebu-Lan Village, Black Family Development, Communities in Schools, Don Bosco Hall, Inner City Sub Center, New Creation in Christ and Operation Get Down to celebrate the legacy and 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s inspirational “I Have a Dream” speech.

This historic speech, first given on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., will be played on a large screen at Finney High School located at 17200 Southampton. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:00 p.m.

The event will also include a performance by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School Marching Band and comments from individuals who attended the original speech in Washington.

Admission to the event is free. Those in attendance will also have the chance to hear presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama speak “live” via satellite from Denver, Colorado. This once in a lifetime opportunity also includes live local entertainment as well as giveaways for those in attendance. This event is open to everyone regardless of political affiliation.
