February 5, 2008 – In an effort to help students stay warm this winter season, the Coats for Kids “Plus” Drive has announced its 11th annual program. Generous givers have already provided the coats, but we still need the “plus!” Items such as knit hats, gloves, scarves, undershirts, socks and tights are still needed. Purchased items should be in children sizes x-small to x-large. From now until March 20, 2008 donations will be accepted at the three following authorized locations:

-Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History located at 315 East Warren
-Detroit Public Schools Welcome Center located at 3031 W. Grand Blvd
-Comerica Bank branch located in the lobby of the Fisher Building

Joyce Elementary teacher Mearon Lewers, began the drive 11 years ago after noticing students were inadequately dressed for winter. Since its beginning Coats for Kids Plus has provided much needed accessories to students throughout the District.

For more information or to send a monetary donation, please contact Mearon Lewers at (313) 822-6587 or mearonlewers@aol.com.
