CODY HIGH SCHOOL ROCKS THE HOLIDAYS WITH
MEMORIES OF MOTOWN AND MARTHA

They won’t be ‘Dancin’ In The Streets,’ they’ll be dancing on the stage. The performing arts students at Cody High School and former Motown star, Councilmember Martha Reeves, will rock you into the Holidays at the school’s Christmas Season concert.

The Honorable Ms. Reeves will be the Mistress of Ceremonies for Cody’s “Motown Christmas” Thursday, December 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school located at 14885 Cathedral. You’ll take a soulful stroll down memory lane with familiar hits of the Season from Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, the Temptations, and others delivered in that distinct Motown style. But, there’s more. The students will not only sing the songs of the stars, they’ll ‘become’ the stars down to the last detail like Motown’s signature fancy footwork.

Over 40 students from the school’s three choirs have been rehearsing for months with Patricia Hall, show director and vocal music instructor at the school. Cody’s Principal, Ms. Belinda J. Raines noted that while the students worked hard on their stage skills, there was another lesson to be learned that their parents have known for decades. “It’s important for today’s young people to experience and understand the rich musical heritage of Detroit and connect it to their musical experiences today. Understanding and appreciating the music of Motown helps them realize that music comes in many forms and there is always someone around to appreciate it.”

Tickets to the performance are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. If you have questions, contact Patricia Hall at 313-866-9200. Proceeds will be used to purchase robes for the choir.
