The Metropolitan Detroit Area Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. (JROTC) has invited all area programs to participate in the Annual Drill Competition.

Hundreds of cadets from 25 high school Army, Navy and Marine JROTC programs will take to the ‘field of battle’ and demonstrate their marching and drill performance skills. The competition is an opportunity for cadets to demonstrate discipline, unit teamwork, precision, timing and drill techniques they’ve learned in the classroom.

The competition will take place on Saturday, December 15th from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Cass Technical High School gymnasium, 2501 Second Ave.

The cadet units will vie for three awards given for first, second and third place, plus the award for the Best Overall Team. The drill competition is surely one of the more flashy aspects of the JROTC program but it too fits into the overall focus on cadet development. It helps the students learn to pay attention to detail, develop self-confidence, strengthens their esprit de corps.

The event is free. Come early and cheer for your favorite school.
