Detroit Public Schools Welcomes Steve Wasko

Steve Wasko APR has been named Executive Director of Public Relations for the Detroit Public Schools. In that role he will serve as the primary media spokesman for General Superintendent Dr. Connie Calloway and the Detroit Public Schools and will oversee internal and external communications initiatives.

Prior to his appointment Wasko served as Assistant Superintendent for Community Relations for the West Bloomfield School District where he oversaw all external relations, strategic planning and enrollment planning, and previously worked as a Public Information Associate for the Detroit Board of Education and Director of News and Information/Interim Director of University Relations for the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Wasko is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America and is a member of the Michigan School Public Relations Association, the National School Public Relations Association and the Education Writers Association. The lifelong Detroit resident is active in community initiatives and currently serves as President of the Indian Village Association, the Villages CDC and the Riverfront East Alliance and as Vice Chairman of the City of Detroit Historic District Commission. He formerly served as Steering Committee Member for the Governor
