Superintendent issues statement on plans to bring more charters to Detroit

Detroit Public Schools Interim Superintendent Lamont Satchel today issued the following statement regarding a proposal to bring 25 new schools chartered by Central Michigan University to the city:

“The Detroit Public Schools system remains the best educational option for children in this city. We offer a richer variety of academic and extra-curricular programs than both charter schools and neighboring public school systems. Above all we vastly outperform charter schools in the city on standardized examinations. More to the point, as the chart below illustrates, we outperform all schools chartered by Central Michigan University in the city.
