Golightly wins prestigious national award

The Golightly Career and Technical Center has been awarded the newly established American Express Aldo Papone Award for Leadership in Academy Performance, which is given to the highest performing National Academy Foundation (NAF) schools in the country.

NAF is an education reform organization that works with a network of more than 500 college-preparatory academies like Golightly. The award salutes schools within its network that are on the leading edge of high school reform. One school is selected from each region of the country (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Mid-West and West) based on a list of criteria that includes achieving graduation rates of at least 95 percent or significantly above the national average. Each school receives a $5,000 award which it may elect to use for student scholarships/awards or programmatic support.

The award is named for Aldo Papone, a retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc.

JD Hoye, president of the National Academy Foundation, said of Golightly Career and Tech Center: “They are in the forefront when it comes to providing mentoring and networking opportunities for students with business leaders.”
