Heidi Herbert, a dance teacher at Spain Elementary/Middle School, has been named Dance Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD).
Representatives of the organization cited the fact that Herbert’s children are “happily and energetically moving.”
“They understand the basic concepts of dance performance and enjoy it thoroughly,” a report said. “MAHPERD is proud to have Heidi Herbert as one of our active members and as an officer on our board of directors.”
Herbert, a DPS dance teacher for 10 years, holds dance concerts throughout the school year that feature students. A native of Bloomfield Hills, she is a graduate of Wayne State University.
Spain is a high achieving K-8 school with a strong emphasis on the performing arts, particularly choral, orchestra, band, drama, dance – and academics.
