Detroit Public Schools CEO Dr. Kenneth Stephen Burnley today issued the following statement concerning ratification of the Detroit Federation of Teachers contract:
“This is outstanding news for our entire community, especially our teachers and children. We are very excited that our teaching staff has overwhelmingly supported this 3-year contract. This contract provides the maximum improvements for teachers in the most cost effective manner while focusing on what is best for all of our students. This contract creates more competitive salaries and better working conditions, which will help stabilize our workforce and move toward putting a certified teacher in every classroom. We can now move forward with our number one goal, student achievement. I again congratulate both contract negotiation teams for doing an excellent job and for thorough representation of their members.”
