There's never been a better time for businesses, alumni, community members and everyone concerned with public education to partner with Detroit Public Schools. With a rigorous new five-year academic plan in place and new instructional strategies and a stronger curriculum in every classroom, major worldwide corporations and alumni of local schools are stepping forward to volunteer, contribute and pledge human resources, talent, technology and monetary gifts.
The District recognized the need for the Office of School Nutrition to utilize technology to improve our service to customers. The Office of School Nutrition implemented an electronic Point of Sale (POS) system in schools to more accurately record food sales and reduce the amount of time students stand in line and allow site Managers to focus on the quality issues in their locations. Electronic POS systems are currently in operation in over 158 schools. This also allows the Office of School Nutrition to file the claim for reimbursement on a more timely basis. In Spring 2010 the Office of Food Service will install "Touch Screen" systems in a limited number of schools with a goal of installing them in all locations during the 2010-11 school year further improving efficiency.
