The Office of School Nutrition is committed to supporting the educational development of Detroit Public School (DPS) students by providing hot, delicious and nutritious meals. On-site preparation ensures that meals are served hot in compliance with Federal, State and local Health Department regulations. All menus adhere to the guidelines of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The Detroit Public Schools is the first school district in the country to make available the "Universal Breakfast" at "No Charge Program" to all students. The breakfast meals are served at the beginning of the school day either in the classroom or the lunchroom. Numerous studies continue to show a direct correlation between eating breakfast and improved learning and overall student performance. What's cooking! DPS is happy to provide fresh cooked food items with our Heat & Serve program. Meals are heated, served fresh and hot on site to students. This meal program is found throughout the District at schools that do not have full service kitchens.
