The Class of 2011, made up of 434 cadets, had a graduation rate of 92.8 percent. Cadets' grade point averages, SAT scores and ACT scores are higher, on average, than their schools as a whole. They have fewer suspensions than fellow students and a lower dropout rate.

For 2011, 211 cadets received non-military college scholarships, including 176 for four-year colleges and universities, while 25 students enlisted.

JROTC cadets are under no obligation to join the military. JROTC simply uses proven military skills to help students develop and improve self-discipline, confidence, and pride in ways not usually offered in school.

Goals

In 1920 JROTC was established in seven Detroit high schools. Currently, the Corps of Cadets consists of 3,735 students in 22 programs, totaling 17% of the student population. DPS hosts 19 Army programs, two Air Force programs, and one Navy program.

The JROTC curriculum encompasses a broad spectrum of subjects including communication skills, leadership, physical fitness, first aid, drug abuse prevention, history, citizenship, and technology awareness.

Co-curricular activities include the JROTC Curriculum Advanced Studies Staff School (JCAS3) for Battalion Commanders and Staff, Corps Dining In for Cadet Leadership, JROTC College Fair (Jamboree), Elmwood Veterans Day Ceremony, Local and Regional Drill and Raider Competitions, Model United Nations Summit, Michigan Cadet Challenge, Annual Military Ball, 5k Run, Postal Marksmanship Matches, and JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge.

JROTC cadets are very active in the schools and the local communities, providing services such as Color Guard detail, drill teams, escorts for visiting dignitaries, and ushers for college and career fairs, concerts, dances, and other school activities. Cadets also participate in youth literacy programs, Red-Cross Blood Drives, and Toys for Tots. Cadets conduct annual service learning projects, canned food and clothing drives, they prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets, and raise funds for disaster relief.
