Bilingual Student Learning Plan

Office of English Language Learners & Global Languages

All bilingual students identified as potentially eligible to receive bilingual services will be required to have a Bilingual Learning Plan.

The Bilingual Student Learning Plan:

  • Is developed and monitored by the local school staff and administration.
  • Places the English Language Learner (ELLs) at his/her instructional level in reading, writing.
  • Guides curriculum implementation, instruction and assessment in reading and writing.
  • Provides teachers with a written Bilingual Student Learning Plan that aligns student test results (on the B-VAT and Woodcock-Munoz Tests) with the Performance Indicators (Standards outlined by the District) the ELLs need to acquire and master in English. - Includes learning goals and strategies that will be used with the ELLs as they acquire English.
  • Revised at the beginning of each card marking.
  • It involves parent, students and teachers in goal-setting and in the full implementation of the plan.
  • Provides the family with the opportunity to choose from a variety of extended day, weekend and extended year learning opportunities for English Language Learners (After school Tutoring, Saturday School, and Summer School).
  • Establishes a schedule for quarterly assessments.
  • Provides opportunity for instructional staff to modify and update the Bilingual Student Learning Plan as needed.
