The Detroit Public Schools, in collaboration with Wayne State University, will sponsor a Bilingual Administrator Preparation Program. The BAP2 program is designed to increase the number of bilingual administrators to meet the needs of bilingual students, within the target language areas of: Arabic, Chaldean, Bengali, Hmong, Romanian, and Spanish.
The number of participants in the BAP2 program will be assigned proportionally to the number of bilingual students in the target language areas.
The BAP2 program is designed for Detroit Public School bilingual certified teachers who are interested in becoming administrators. The Detroit Public Schools will provide Wayne State University with 50% of the required tuition; however, the selected participants will be responsible for the remaining balance. The financial commitment from the participant will be in the sum of $3,000 dollars. However, the district will sponsor the additional $3,000 dollars.
In return for the tuition contribution, participants will agree to work on a full-time basis, for five years with Detroit Public Schools. Participants that do not successfully complete the training as planned, will be required to reimburse the district the amount paid by the District. For additional questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Carlos Lopez at (313) 873-4020.
The target date for this program is January 2004. Please submit application and supporting documents by Friday, December 5, 2003 by 4:00 p.m.
