Mathematics Core Curriculum Outcomes
Grades K-12

This document describes Detroit Public Schools' core curriculum of essential learnings that students are expected to attain as they progress in their schooling from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Based on state curriculum outcomes and national standards, it serves as a framework for preparing students for the twenty-first century. In its entirety, it is responsive to the district vision and mission statements to successfully educate all children in a learner-centered, caring community and the directive to create "a system of high standards comprising challenging curriculum and rigorous assessment." Within specific subject areas, the core curriculum provides a guide to the creation of courses which will assure students have access to the same quality curriculum. Finally, the core curriculum reflects a view of education where students are actively engaged in the construction of knowledge in classrooms where children make meaning and apply that knowledge in real world contexts.
