For more than 50 years, the GED Testing Center has provided a means to obtain personal satisfaction, as well as to realize educational and occupational opportunities, for Detroit area adults who did not complete their formal high school studies. The GED testing program provides high quality tests and promotes assessable testing services to individuals who may benefit from high school equivalency diploma. The GED Test at our center is available in Standard Print form, Spanish-language editions, Large Print, and Audio Cassette editions.

Eligibility of Candidate to take GED Tests

  • At least 16 years of age and not currently enrolled in an accredited High School.
  • Valid driver’s licenses, valid passports, military IDs, or other forms of government-issued (National or Foreign) identification.

Testing Fees

  • Only in form of Money Order
  • City of Detroit residents: $30
  • Out of District: $99
  • Re-Test Fee is $10 per part for clients that have tested with us before.
  • Your first Transcript is FREE of charge after testing.
  • Other Official Transcript requests: $5
  • Transcripts can be either picked or requested by mail after filling this form.

The center only keeps records for DPS testers. Clients who tested at another location must bring their transcripts. To locate record from previous test locations, please call (517) 373-1692.

Money orders must be payable to GED Testing Service.

Testing is free for students enrolled in DPS classes with referral from teacher. For classes call (313) 852-1089 or (313) 579-7109.


General information

  • Pre-registration is done daily 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • The GED Test takes 2 days to complete
  • Within two weeks clients will receive a FREE 1st time, official transcript from this test center in the mail upon completing the ENTIRE test.
  • Clients will receive a State of Michigan GED Certificate directly from Lansing upon passing the test {Passing score is 2250 (225), with no individual score below 410 (41)}
  • Accommodations are available with approved documentation and a prior arrangement.
